2021 Ford Escape vs 2021 Jeep Cherokee

Serving Richardson, TX

For the last few decades, the Ford Escape and the Jeep Cherokee have directly competed. Now that you are preparing to buy a new compact crossover SUV, you may feel torn between these two popular options. The Escape has a more affordable starting price. This is only the beginning of the critical differences you need to understand more about before making a new crossover purchase.

Exterior

The Escape’s fourth-generation debuted last year, and this generational change brought a beautiful transformation across the exterior. The 2021 Escape’s façade is identical to its 2020 counterpart. The Escape has an athletic, modern feel from end to end with clean, swooping surfaces and a low profile, and thick molding across the lower-side panels. The Jeep Cherokee’s current generation debuted a decade ago, and only modest exterior style updates have been made since that time.

Interior

The 2021 Escape and the 2021 Cherokee continue to stand apart throughout their cabins. Both models have a two-row cabin with expected features like automatic climate controls, smart device integration, and leather material in the top trim levels. The Escape’s design is characterized by ambient lighting, a rotary gear selector, a floating display screen, and other modern touches. The Cherokee’s interior has a traditional gear selection stick, a display screen mounted in the middle of the console, and knob controls for the sound system, climate controls, and other features.

Performance

Unlike the Cherokee, the 2021 Escape has both gas and hybrid powertrains. The primary engine is a turbo 1.5-liter gas engine that aims to please with its production of 181 horsepower. A 2.5-liter hybrid variant generates 200 net horsepower. For an extra boost of power, the Escape is available with a 2.0-liter turbo engine that delivers 250 horsepower. In comparison, the Cherokee is available with three gas engine options. The starting powertrain is a 2.4-liter Tigershark, 180-horsepower engine. Others are a 2.0-liter turbo engine and a Pentastar 3.2-liter engine.
