Serving Richardson, TX

The 2019 Ford Escape and Ford Edge both impress with their sporty performance and commuter-friendly comfort. So how do you decide which of these Ford crossovers is more your type? Our comparison guide is here to help you choose between them. Here, we discuss everything from horsepower to infotainment features. Check it out before you head out for your first test drive.

Performance

The Escape is a compact crossover that can move. Its base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. If you want a little more pep in your step, upgrade to the Escape SE or SEL. These trims feature a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that balances speed and fuel economy, boosting output to 179 horses and 177 pound-feet of torque. This engine is the Escape’s thriftiest option, giving you up to 23 city/30 highway mpg for your daily drive. The top-of-the-line Escape Titanium brings the heat with its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It’s the fastest the Escape has to offer, bringing the heat with 245 horses and 275 pound-feet of torque. The midsize Edge has two engines on offer, both of which give your daily drive plenty of pep. The Edge SE, SEL, and Titanium trim come standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s good for 250 horses and 280 pound-feet of torque. In the Edge ST, you’ll find even more power, thanks to this trim model’s twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 engine. It boosts performance with 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.

Appearance

You’ll recognize both the 2019 Ford Escape and Ford Edge as being cut from the same automaker. Both crossovers feature Ford’s trademark front-end design cues, making them easy to pick out of a crowd. As a compact crossover, the Escape is slightly smaller than the midsize Edge. That means the Edge is perhaps the better choice for families on the run, though we must say that the Escape never shorts you on passenger space. But if you’ve got tall passengers or lots of luggage to transport, a little extra space doesn’t hurt.

Features

Here, the 2019 Ford Escape and Edge have more in common than not. Both crossovers offer some of the best infotainment gear in the industry – namely, Ford’s Sync 3 system. Its 8-inch touchscreen features sharp color graphics and intuitive menu layouts, making the system easy to access as you move through traffic. Sync 3 also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smartphone capabilities that give you impressive access to your smartphone via touchscreen or voice controls. Ford also makes modern comfort a priority in both the Escape and Edge. These crossovers offer everything from upscale leather upholstery to cozy seat heaters. The Edge even provides optional ventilated seats to keep you fresh when summer arrives.
